DRINKING WATER UPDATE 3/22/2023
Contractors completed all of the Well #3 projects late in 2022. Following the main filter installation and building project, additional work was necessary to meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) required manganese levels throughout the distribution system. Contractors completed a full well rehab along with an acid wash and installed an additional chemical treatment. Following the completion of all projects, manganese levels at Well #3 showed great improvements but took time for levels to decrease throughout the full distribution system. Weekly distribution tests have shown consistent levels below three hundred parts per billion (PPB) during the months of January, February, and March. At this time, the Village has met the EPA standards and the Village’s water is safe to drink for all populations. The Village will continue to monitor distribution system levels weekly and perform quarterly testing as required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Please note Well #1 and Well #2 continue to exceed the 300PPB limit. The Public Works Department runs these two wells as needed to ensure they are in working order if Well #3 cannot meet water demand in the event of an emergency. The DNR will continue to require the Village to issue quarterly No-Drink Notices as long as Well #1 and Well #2 pump any water into the distribution system. The Village is investigating options for manganese treatment on these two wells. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Village Office. The fill station will now be accessible Monday through Friday 8-4:30 via the main Village Office door. Water test kits are available at the Village Office. These kits are sent to Commercial Testing Labs and for $14 can test the levels of manganese in your drinking water. We will continue to provide updates via our quarterly newsletters and website. |
